First Lady Joins MADD in ‘Tie One On’ Red Ribbon

On Tuesday, Dec. 21, in a ceremony held on the south lawn of the White House, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton joined Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in tying a red ribbon to a local family’s car as a symbol to all Americans to join in the fight
against drink driving this holiday season.

The holidays are traditionally a dangerous time on the road, with more instances of drunk driving than any other time throughout the year. Someone is killed by an impaired driver nearly every 33 minutes, and more than one person is injured every 30 seconds.

The “Tie One On For Safety” campaign, MADD’s largest annual public awareness program, encourages motorists to tie a MADD ribbon to their automobiles as a reminder to drive safe and sober.
